Director Sujoy Mukherjee remembering his father
My father had an excellent personality ,a docile nature and an innocence of a child. He was kind,generous and a gentleman to the core who was liked by all his heroines and Co stars. Someone who did not budge from his principles come what may.
He acted in numerous films and was adored and admired for his performances in films like Love in Simla ,love in Tokyo , Ziddi , Shagird -and many more such Super Hit Films. I remember each and every dialogues and his antics in films such as “ek musafir ek Hasina” and Musical hit “ Phir wohi dil laya hoon. “
He was a caring husband and a loving father who pampered my sister Simran ,brother Monjoy and me no end.
He was my Hero ,my source of inspiration and a Guru who time and again inculcated in me the art of film making ,its intriguing intricacies and trails and tribulations. He often told me to not to underestimate your virtues and the power of touch,a smile, a kind word, an honest compliment which have a potential of turning a misfortune into a fortune. He always stated that problems were a part of life and facing them successfully was art of life.
The way he portrayed songs in films such as “Banda parwar, ley gayee dil , aaja re aa zara ,main pyar ka rahi hoon etc. It seemed as if he meant every word pronounced in them.
I am celebrating my father’s 86 th birthday on this 24th February 2025 with gusto and aplomb. Joy Mukherjee saheb’s life was simply marvellous, outstanding, awesome and meaningful. I carry his genes and intend to direct more films and take legacy forward of Filmalaya Studios in the tinsel town.
